It’s not always sunshine and rainbows

The RBC myHR intranet site was completed on time, while satisfying our client’s needs in achieving what they wanted.

It was a bumpy ride however. A ride that needed constructive dialogue, thoughtful leadership, and better management of client requests and expectations.

Our team was briefed by our client to our account lead and project manager with timelines and expectations outlined.

At this point, everyone is happy and things are well on their way.

Once the project got rolling, team members started getting into the ins and outs of the scope of work and quickly realized gaps in the understanding of the assignment, as well as the logistics of deliverables.

An internal brief was held outlining next steps on how to complete the project properly while satisfying expectations and maintaining client relations.

The final product exceeded client expectations, was delivered on time and followed with a debrief with RBC sharing the positives and negatives of our endeavor.

What went wrong?

Promises,
promises.

During the kick off call, client desires and wants weren’t successfully challenged or guided, setting off a chain of impossible asks and unobtainable timelines.

How come this
isn’t working?

As the project moved on, confusion started to creep in on what was capable, and what wasn’t.

A missed call to IT and logistics (skipping a very crucial step in the process) left our team struggling to find solutions.
